Anyone up for a good discussion on what transpires directly at our deaths? Do you soul sleep? Will you go to heaven or hell immediately? Are we raised at His second coming and judged then? Anyone? To me this topic has always been fundamental in validating end time beliefs, and always leads to a stimulating discussion.

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is when Jesus turns to the thief on the cross and says: Assuredly I tell you - today you will be with Me in paradise. On another note - I'm logged in at the other site but i must be missing something - i cant post ! No post buttons, reply buttons or anything else. I've PM'd a few mods over there, but no response yet What's up with that ?

Hi Janeto, As a consistant preterist, I believe that we Believers are immediatly clothed in our resurrection bodies and ushered into heaven upon physical death, where we shall ever be with the Lord. In Contrast, unbelievers are immediatly Judged and cast into the lake of fire. The wait is over. Phoenix, as to "today you shall be with me in paradise" I believe Jesus must have been referring to "Abrahams Bosom", the section of Hades reserved for the saints and believers in Christ before the parousia. I believe this because Jesus did not go into Heaven that day, He went to Hades. He referred it to the thief as paradise, but it wasn't "Heaven". Thoughts?

When Stephen was being stoned, he said he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
Like Jesus was getting ready to welcome him to heaven perhaps.
I am not sure where this is in the Bible, but I've heard it quoted many time.......To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

I'm curious. Which Bible do you refer to? If I'm correct, I believe that he's talking about a reference in the Bible that says He decended to the lower parts of the earth. In his view this means hades. As for getting our resurrected bodies as soon as we die. That's no where in the Bible. That's just a Peterist view.

Our soul goes straight to heaven as I stated this verse 2Cor 5:8. I'm sure there are other references. I'll let you know as soon as I find them.

Can you show from scripture that Jesus went anywhere else that day? The Bible, and therefore preterism, teaches that upon our physical death and the sowing of our physical bodies into the earth, God gives us a new spiritual body. This is the resurrection of the dead. (1 Corinthians 35-50)

Hmmm...what an answer. I thought it to be a simple question. If it doesn't offend you, which Holy Bible are you referring to? KJV, NIV, NKJV, ASB, 1890 Darby.

Interesting verse - i had always taken that at face value, more or less the way it reads. I did look up a few commentaries on it and yes, it basically said the same thing as you indicated.
