Donkeydude: I personally, if it were possible for me to become pregnant, would never consider an abortion, but I support the rights of others who would choose otherwise.
Me: How can you say this when you have earlier admitted that you were privy to your girlfriend's abortion because it came at an inconvenient season in your lives? We're you opposed to your girlfriend getting an abortion, but relented at her request?
I must admit, you have some very strange beliefs for a Christian. The Bible tells us that if we allow Him, The Holy Spirit will lead us in all truth. The things you support and practice and view as acceptable are condemned in God's Word. Your views are in direct conflict with God's views.
It appears you have fallen for the world's mentality of doing what is right in your own eyes, rather than simply obeying God.
Fornication (pre-marital sex) is wrong. Period. End of discussion. And now, because of your disobedience in this area, you and your girlfriend are now unrepentant takers of human life. In other words, you are murderers.
You say you're a Christian, but in works you deny Him, and exalt yourself as god, establishing what you think is right rather than what is clearly written in His Word.
But, The Word of The Lord is a two-edged sword. One side cuts, the other side heals. One side kills, the other brings life. Hopefully, you've been cut by the judgment side of His Sword.
Now, I must bring you the healing side of The Word of The Lord. And it can come if you'll receive it. Even though you and your girlfriend have committed such heinous acts, The Lord is ready and willing to receive you to Himself if you will confess and forsake your unrighteous behavior.
The Lord is gracious and full of lovingkindness to those who are broken in repentance before Him. Despite our sin, God reaches out His Hand in love and mercy to save us from our wretchedness!
But if you continue in your fornication and your support of the supreme selfish act of abortion, then you know that you are not of God. Those who have The Holy Spirit cannot live in continual sin and be happy. Unregenerate sinners can, a true Christian cannot. And those who have The Holy Spirit will be in agreement with God's Word, unless they've been led astray by the error of the wicked.
If you doubt the truthfulness of these words, check it out in The Bible. Let God be true and every man a liar.
I hope you allow The Word of God to bring repentance, truth and life into your world.

We're you opposed to your girlfriend getting an abortion, but relented at her request? She did not have an abortion. In a later posting I spoke of Plan B, the morning after pill. It is not an abortion pill. "Taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, Plan B can, when used correctly, reduce the risk of pregnancy by 89 percent after a single act of unprotected sex. Effectiveness declines as the interval between intercourse and the start of treatment increases. How does Plan B work (mechanism of action)? Plan B is believed to act as an emergency contraceptive principally by preventing ovulation or fertilization (by altering tubal transport of sperm and/or ova). In addition, it may inhibit implantation by altering the endometrium. Plan B is not effective if a woman is pregnant. Plan B is a contraceptive and cannot terminate an established pregnancy."

Donkeydude, Whilst we all respect the right of you and your girlfriend to make moral choices, abortion is a sin. As for "the morning after" pill - according to Rock (a good friend of mine, and a member of these boards), it doesn't prevent a pregnancy, but actually aborts it. Andy.

BTW, I agree with donkeydude that a pregnancy isn't a pregnancy until the fertilized egg has joined itself to the lining of the woman's uterus.

That is not true the information I posted came from the drug makers website which is approved by the FDA. Soon the pill will be available OTC, I doubt very much the FDA would allow an abortion pill to be as easy as tylenol to buy.

Why not, when you consider that abortion itself is allowed? Andy. First, because the only recognized "abortion pill" RU486 is much too volatile to be taken at home. It requires many hours physician supervision and is actually very painful. If taken at home with out medical care a woman could very well bleed to death. Secondly, the FDA is under heavy political pressure to begin with. I don't thing the GOP, considering they control all branches of the government, is going to allow the FDA to make abortion more accessible any time soon.

And what about the ordinary contraceptive pill? How certain can you be that that doesn't cause abortions?

And what about the ordinary contraceptive pill? How certain can you be that that doesn't cause abortions? Very simple taking a birth control pill while pregnant will do nothing to the fetus. Birth control works in the follow manners: It helps prevent ovulation, which means that an egg is not released by a woman's ovaries for fertilization. It thickens cervical mucus so that sperm are less likely to enter her uterus. It causes changes in the endometrium to reduce the likelihood of implantation.

I didn't know this. I can go to bed now; I've learned something new! The mechanism sounds similar to the traditional Pill, and I've heard of suggestions (by medical professionals) to load up on the Pill (take 4) the "morning after," the idea being to prevent ovulation or (more likely) implantation. Thanks for the info! Blessings, LJ

Wow, imagine if a president were to try to change the Constitution to fit his own brand of morality! Say, by using it to discriminate against a whole segment of the population. Who's being discriminated against? (I know what you're going to say.... ) Blessings, LJ

While it works it does make the woman very ill for a couple of days.

It seems reasonable to me to limit abortions to the first trimester. I am not a physican nor do I plan on being one. So, I don't exactly when the most reasonable cut off point is. I appreciate your frankness. Why do you see a cut-off point at all? Is it because premature babies (as early as 4 1/2 months now) can survive? Or is it something else? This is most encouraging! No, it isn't, except insofar as the founders provided a mechanism for ammendment. That part is obviously true, as set forth in Marbury v. Madison, but in the particular case of Roe v. Wade, the court added to the Constitution without utilizing the mechanism for ammendment. (To be sure, this has happened other times, almost always with disasterous consequences, e.g., Plessy v. Ferguson) Can you find it in the Constitution? A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.Quite a debatable issue! Using a familiar hermeneutical tool, the Federalist Papers are much more clear on the topic. Are you interested in a thread on the second amendment? Me too!! Blessings, LJ
