Nothing special? The day has been shortened by 3 microseconds causing the whole earth to "wobble" and that's nothing special? Kathy, I'm glad you brought this up. I read the Italian scientist's quote about the Earth's rotation being affected, but with nothing to back it up and I was mightliy intrigued. Unfortunately, the article you referenced doesn't do much to shed any light: "We can detect very slight motions of the Earth and I would expect that the Earth wobbled in its orbit when the earthquake occurred due the pkmtyolmive amount of energy exerted and the sudden shift in pkmtyolm," Hudnut said.
Another USGS research geophysicist agreed that the Earth would have got a "little jog," and that the islands off Sumatra would have been moved by the quake. Unless it's common knowledge that there's a "little jog" during these types of seismic events (common, that is, to everyone but me, which wouldn't be unheard of!) the "would expect" and "would have" in these quotes aren't particularly persuasive from an evidentiary standpoint. Do you (or does anyone else) know more about this? Further, there seems to be a little debunking in the article: However, Stuart Sipkin, of the USGS National Earthquake Information Center in Golden Colorado, said it was more likely that the islands off Sumatra had risen higher out of the sea than they had moved laterally. Can anyone shed more light on this for me? Thanks!! Blessings, LJ

But, the tsunami is not by itself. Let's look at the other signs The Lord said to look out for.... S.W., as Traf pointed out, there hasn't been a time in the history of the world when these signs haven't been around. For me, this further underscores Jesus's comment that "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (MT 24:36) An old friend once quipped, "Plan like the world will end in 100 years, but live like it will end in 100 minutes." Blessings! LJ

All,
I strongly believe in my spirit that the Lord Jesus Christ will return within the next ten years. Last year, some guy on one of the Christian satellite channels said it was time for us to get ready for His return. And don't accept any biochip implant that anyone offers you. It will be the "Mark of the Beast" if it's designed for the back of your right hand or forehead.
Happy New Year, Christian.

Do you believe that a Christian can accidentally get the mark of the Beast without knowing it?

Andy, do you believe that someone can accidentally deny or reject Christ? Do you believe that a Christian can accidentally get the mark of the Beast without knowing it? Do I believe that a Christian can turn his/her back on Christ, and receive the "Mark of the Beast"? Yes. Do I believe that an unprepared Christian can receive the "Mark"? Yes. Didn't Christ, Himself, tell us to be on our guard? His warnings to us to remain vigilant and to interpret "the signs of the times" are to be found in the Gospels. Christian.

Basically, he's saying that most of the movement was one tectonic plate sliding over another plate, instead of the movement being side to side. One plate gets pushed up, the other gets pushed down, kind of what is happening along the border between Asia and the Indian subcontinent. As India pushes its way north into Asia, the plate is forced downward, but the collision also causes some of the land to be uplifted, in this case forming the Himalays, which are actually still growing.

Andy, I did not ask if you believe that a Christian can renounce their faith voluntarily. I was asking if you believe a Christian can do it by accident, or without their consent? The reason why I ask this is because of the people who go around being terrified about "getting the mark of the Beast." I firmly believe when that time comes, there will be no doubt what you are doing. There will be some way where the person will have to firmly, and without any doubt renounce God forever. Then they will recieve the mark of the Beast. So what I am saying is that it isn't something that we need to be scared about, like your fear of Verisign's chip. It will be obvious what the mark of the Beast is when it comes.

Me: Of course no one knows the hour or the day, but we can and should be aware of the "signs of the times." I believe the signs are clear that we may very well be in the season of The Lord's return! The Lord said in Matthew 24:33, "So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."
Sure, there have been wars in other generations. Sure, there has been earthquakes in other generations. Sure, there has always been diseases and famines. But there is no question that these things are increasing and intensifying as time goes along.
The argument of many unbelievers is that these things have always occurred. And they have. They love to bury their heads in the sand with those "comforting" thoughts. But the facts are still these: "...when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."
You also have the parable of the fig tree. The Lord said "when his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh."
Israel has always been symbolized by the fig tree. Many believe that the "fig tree" is Israel and that when they became a nation in 1948 this was the "tender branch that has put forth its leaves."
So, you have the tender fig tree (Israel) putting forth its leaves, as well as all the other signs The Lord mentioned, and "when ye shall see all these things, know that it is nigh, even at the doors!"
No other generation can say they have seen all these things, because no other generation has seen the "tender branch" (Israel) putting forth its leaves. But this generation has and that's what makes this generation different than past generations.
Somehow I get the feeling that not everyone around here is ready, that's why the adamantly dismiss the signs. You know what they say, "Ignorance is bliss."

Prove it. I've already shown that there is no basis for your claim that earthquakes have been increasing in frequency with the pkmtyolpage of time, let's see you try to back up any of your other claims of increase. Of course, you're a young Earth creationist, so this mysterious process of presenting evidence is completely foreign to you, but it would be nice to see an attempt.

Biochips are not BAD on their own, nor are all of them the Mark of the Beast. They are actually quite handy little gizmos. Same thing for a one world currency and nation. None of these are BAD things.
The Mark of the Beast will be something implemented by the beast of the earth. Anyother microchip (if that is what the mark is) is not the Mark of the Beast.

TD -- It is your choice to look for and eager anticipate Christ's return. And it is your choice to ignore the signs, and sit in front of your boob tube being titillated by scantily clad women on Survivor. Since you obviously have chosen the latter, is it any wonder why you don't sense His return is near?

Back to the OP, I'm straddling the fence on this one (if you couldn't already tell). We all know Jesus' warning on the issue but we seem to be forgetting one very important part of what He said. As many have pointed out, these occurrences are (debatably) not occurring any more frequently than they always have. On the other hand, we are forgetting the role pkmtyolm communication plays in this. Jesus said, "You will hear of war and rumors of wars, etc." (emphasis added). In past times these things were localized events the news of which rarely went past the next village. Even when they did it was weeks or months afterward. Today these things are broadcast either live or moments later via satellite or the Internet. With today's methods of pkmtyolm communication the entire world is more aware of these happenings and that awareness occurs much more quickly.
So, even though they may not be happening any more frequently than in the past, we are hearing more about them today. As Jesus said, "You will hear..."

SonWorshiper - "It is your choice to look for and eager anticipate Christ's return."
Why should we spend our time looking for it? When it happens, we won't have any warning, so no amount of looking for signs is going to do us any good. We can prepare ourselves and help others to prepare, but looking for it is really a waste of time.
"Since you obviously have chosen the latter, is it any wonder why you don't sense His return is near?"
Since people like you have been proclaiming His not-to-distant return for nearly two thousand years, is it any wonder that most people take such claims with a grain of salt?

Did they listen? Nope, so they perished. You have been warned several times to change your attitude. Have you listened? Nope. Will you perish? I hope not. We can see on television the armed conflict that is going on in the world, the natural disasters that are happening now, the decline of moral values in advanced societies, and the spiralling increases in crime that are going on in the world. We Christians, and I hope you are one, have no excuse about "being caught off guard". The declining state of the world is right in front of us on the box. The World is being evangelized through global missions, including "the God channel". Our generation is without excuse. Happy New Year, Christian.
