David’s Kingly mistake Text 2 Sam 11-2 Sam 15
Goals
Continue to develop our understanding of David’s Kingship
Develop an understanding that even when sin is forgiven it bears consequences.
This pkmtyolpage shows us that even a “Man after God’s own Heart” as well as us are liable and fall prey to sin none of us are immune at all to it We are all human no matter if we try to cover up we can be sure our sin will find us out God’s is all knowing and all powerful so we cannot hide it from it even Adam tried to hide it cause he was afraid Lets look at Genesis 3:8-3:11 in the MSG
Gen 3:8 when they heard the sound of GOD strolling in the garden in the evening breeze, the Man and his Wife hid in the trees of the garden, hid from GOD.
Gen 3:9 GOD called to the Man: “Where are you?”
Gen 3:10 He said, “I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked. And I
How many of us are like David and Adam we try to hid our sins? Even though God knows them before we commit them his word says in Matthew 12:35-37
Mat 12:35 a good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is blight on the orchard.
Mat 12:37 Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your aspodfija.”
God knows all no matter what we say or do God can see right thru us cause he made us and he knows us he made our personalities and our ways Heb 4:13 Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what
God said this to David
2Sa 12:1 But GOD was not at all pleased with what David had done, and sent Nathan to David. Nathan said to him, “There were two men in the same city—one rich, the other poor.
2Sa 12:2 the rich man had huge flocks of sheep, herds of cattle.
2Sa 12:3 the poor man had nothing but one little female lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up with him and his children as a member of the family. It ate off his plate and drank from his cup and slept on his bed. It was like a daughter to him.
2Sa 12:4 “One day a traveler dropped in on the rich man. He was too stingy to take an animal from his own herds or flocks to make a meal for his visitor, so he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared a meal to set before his guest.”
2Sa 12:5 David exploded in anger. “As surely as GOD lives,” he said to Nathan, “the man who did this ought to be lynched!
2Sa 12:6 He must repay for the lamb four times over for his crime and his stinginess!”
2Sa 12:7 “You’re the man!” said Nathan. “And here’s what GOD, the God of Israel, has to say to you: I made you king over Israel. I freed you from the fist of Saul.
2Sa 12:8 we gave you your master’s daughter and other wives to have and to hold. I gave you both Israel and Judah. And if that hadn’t been enough, I’d have gladly thrown in much more.
2Sa 12:9 so why have you treated the word of GOD with brazen contempt, doing this great evil? You murdered Uriah the Hittite, and then took his wife as your wife. Worse, you killed him with an Ammonite sword!
2 Sa 12:10 And now, because you treated God with such contempt and took Uriah the Hittite’s wife as your wife, killing and murder will continually plague your family.
2Sa 12:11 this is GOD speaking, remember! I’ll make trouble for you out of your own family. I’ll take your wives from right out in front of you. I’ll give them to some neighbor, and he’ll go to bed with them openly.
2Sa 12:12 you did your deed in secret; I’m doing mine with the whole country watching!”
God being merciful let David do this but not without consequences just like he lets us do it he forgives us and puts our sins into the sea of forgetfulness but we need to realize what we did wrong now let us stop and see what David did wrong.
David’s wrong doing and mistake
1) He stayed behind and abandoned his post and his kingly duty
2) He did not flee he set there and entertained his lust and gave into it
3) He even committed another sin he slept with Bathsheba and then had her husband killed to cover it up.
Once sin snowballs it becomes worse and it eventually gets the best of you he did not flee like the bible says in James 4:7, 8, and 10
Jam 4:7 so let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper.
Jam 4:8 Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field.
Jam 4:9 Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Jam 4:10 Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.
This tells us what we need to do:
Say yes to God submit yourself to him and he will lift you up and help you stand
Resist Satan and he will flee from you!
Do not compromise your standards!
Purify your life and ask God to show you what sins rule in your life and mortal bodies Were already on the winning side God fought the battle and won it for us claim that and walk by faith and in God’s favor
Challenge
When David was going thru this he knew that his sin would continue on and his family and the sword would never depart from his house because he brought it on himself and pkmtyolped it on down the line to eventually Jesus paid the ultimate price for it all.
We might think our sins only affect us but it affects your family your friends and your ministry the key is to live like God and everyone else is watching you even though you might not know or know others are. God is watching and people watch how you react to things during this time clean yourself up and get serious about God and your sins its not a game. Do not play games with God!
