pkmtyolyer Arafat's health is not good. apnews.myway.com/article/20041028/D86060400.html Of course, we don't know if it's actually bad or something frightening but not life-threatening. My SIL, who is at opposite ends of the political spectrum from me, maintains that most Palestinians do not support the terrorist attacks on Israel, that they just need a little guidance to get rid of Arafat, and that they simply want peace and to be left alone. Along with ailing health goes speculation about what would happen if Arafat dies. From the above referenced article: Arafat's health crisis highlights Palestinian unpreparedness for their leader's death, making a chaotic transition all but inevitable. Arafat refuses to groom a successor; rival security chiefs already have battled each other in the streets.Anyone care to speculate on what Arafat's demise would mean to the future of Palestine and to the Israeli/Palestinian "roadmap to peace?" This is something that interests me greatly. Blessings, LJ durn spelling errors!!

Not really, because there will never be true peace in the Middle-East until the return of Christ.

There could be two possibilities if he does die actually theres more than two but these two are ones I would like to see. 1) A new leader that is open to and willing to work with Jews and will keep his word and do what he says they will do. ( I know, I know not realistic but we can hope) 2) A new leader that will become the antichrist. ( this is more likely I think.)
Whatever happens will be Gods doing and preparing the stage for future events. Pam

Not really, because there will never be true peace in the Middle-East until the return of Christ. I understand absolutely your point (and concur!) that true peace in the Middle East will not happen. But what fascinates me is the process... the attempts at harmony among two peoples who have hated each other for so long for so many reasons, real and contrived. I also think it's important to be conversant about this because how we proceed as a nation --who we choose as leaders-- plays such an integral part in this whole process. I think it's important to know the facts so that I can decide which faction to support there and therefor know which candidate to support here. Blessings, LJ

One need only read the book of Esther to know that God's hand is in everything. I'm not too sure the antichrist will come from this group. I think it will be found within Christendom. Arafat hasn't done much to lay out a succession strategy and I know there are fears of a chaotic transition, during which there may be many setbacks on the "road" to peace. The optimist in me, though, prays with confidence that there is not much heart within the Palestinians (irrespective of the terrorists currently in charge) to continue with the progrom of annihiliation of the Jewish state and that when the dust settles (probably in years not months) the peace process will really be a process. So I think your scenario #1 is more than just a pipe dream. God bless, LJ
