I said this a long time ago...but didn't know what the book would be about. Now I know...and before I begin, I just want to know what the "process" is to getting it published. It will be a Spiritual book (non fiction) and potentially a Christian book, although from my experience it won't likely be considered Christian by most...so we will just stick with "spiritual" until I finish it... Does anyone know of who I should contact to see about publishing and what they need to see (ie an abstract, a finished book, first chapter, etc?) in order to get a publishing contract for the book? If I know that I can get it published, I will be able to spend a LOT more time on it, then if I am doing it as a "side project" so I would like to see what my options are here... If anyone knows...please let me know! Thanks!

Jen, start out at your library. In the non-fiction section should be a LARGE (probably paperback) book with a title that pertains to writers/publishers.
It is a huge catalogue of publishers, broken down into several categories ... you go to the section that fits the type of book you want to publish ...
A paragraph gives the name of the company, and other information, such as how to submit a manuscript, whether they accept manuscripts from unknown writers, how many books they publish each year by unknown writers, who a "contact person" is that you send the manuscript to, etc.
IF I have time today (I have a full slate of errands!) I'll try to swing by the local library to get the real title for you, but you should be able to locate it on your own anyway, with the help of a librarian.
Good luck!

Keep in mind I live in a VERY small town, ok?
But I stopped at the library today and found what I was looking for ... it's called "Writer's Market" and comes out every year ... however, the one in MY library was the 1996 edition.
Anyway, it's a fat catalogue. You look under the type of writing you want to publish ... magazine, non-fiction, religious, etc.
It will list a publisher, whether they take submissions from new authors, HOW to submit (send 2 chapters ... send the entire work, etc.) WHERE to send your submission, etc.
GOOD LUCK!

Write the story that is in you - the story the Lord has given you - and when it's done, then search for a publisher whose specifications match what you have written. Feel free to PM or email me - I love helping people with story ideas!

Don't start out trying to write a story that will conform to someone else's publishing rules. Oops, just to be clear ... the book I mention doesn't give rules on HOW to write your book, or what they want to see as far as content ... It's strictly a catalogue of publishers, and what each requires in order to submit a work to them.
