Would you want to be kept alive on artificial nutritian and hydration (ANH). ALl this time?
Not me. It's living death.

I don't know. Can anyone know how Terri feels? She may have felt the same way as you before her accident, but she might be feeling differently now. Is she a born-again Christian? If she isn't, and is left to die, she'll end up in Hell.....
Andy.

my living will states & has since it was written 12 years ago - i can be kept alive artificially for up to 72 hours. in this time whatever organs can be given to another person are to be harvested or that person brought in for the transplant. there are some organs that are better transferred from a living source. after that time it's lights out.
please note -- no matter what y ou say you would want - if it's not written and also discussed with another person -- it doesn't matter. there is a very easy way to make your wishes know.... handwrite a letter or type and sign (having notarized is also great) and mail it to someone and also yourself. do NOT open the letter. this becomes a legal binding document. should it be contested -- i know this sounds very farfetvhed however... your fingerprints will be on the letter and DNA on the seal of the envelope. they used to say it'd be on the stamp but i use slef sticky stamps ; )

Terri isn't "feeling" anything. There is no measurable brain activity. Terri is not there at all. I don't believe that is the case. There is plenty of evidence that she is responsive and can intereact with her environment. As long as there is a question, shouldn't we err on the side of caution and preserve her life until ALL the evidence can be examined and weighed? Further, there has been nothing in the husband's behavior that indicates to me that he has Terri's best interests at heart. He is NOT considering what is best for her --starting way back when he halted her therapy and continuing with not allowing people who love her to see her, not allowing her to receive any religious service (how does that jive with the First Ammendment??) and finally culminating with not allowing her to have food and water. (BTW, I do NOT consider food and hydration to be "life support.") Everything Michael Schiavo has done up until now points to selfish interests, not to trying to do what's best for Terri. But as I said, as long as there is a question about her mental state (and I think the question is nowhere near being resolved) then we cannot seek to end her life. One other think to consider, since I'm all about intellectual honesty... What if she had been born brain damaged? There would be no question about feeding her, would there? Anyway, nice to see you, Bob. Blessings, LJ

Sorry, Pietro. I kind of swerved right off the path of your OP.
I think in the next few years we will see great advances regarding how we evaluate mental states, so I'm not going to weigh in since I believe there are a myriad of levels of "PVS."
And, for the record, Terri is NOT in a PVS.
Blessings, LJ

What would I want? God's good and perfect will. Unless me or any of you is God, we can't decide.
But, if were going to choose who to trust, I would trust those who know God, to decide, that is the church, which is the body of Christ. The church is speaking loud and clear on this issue of Terry.

Mabe, but then again mabe not. There was a lady who appeared on CNN Larry King Live, earlier this week I think it was. She was in a similar condition to that of Terri, the docs all said the same thing about her, in a Persistant vegitative state, unresponsive, unaware.
She stated emphatically that she knew everything that was going on around her, she could hear just fine. She could see what was in her field of vision to see. She recalled with perfect accuracy when they put her feeding tube in, with not enough anethsia. She remembered her hubbie fighting with doctors and family to keep her alive. And the years of misery of being locked up in her own mind, perfectly aware of everything and unable to do a thing. BUT she DID recover, she did come back, she got the therapy she needed, unlike poor Terri.
Perhaps it was only the region of the brain that controls voluntary bodily movements that was damaged in Terri, like with the gal from Larry King.
That is truly a horrible condition to imagine ones self in, worse than any prison. And to make matters worse, imagine being in that state, with that cold fish of a husband of hers, leaving her languishing in a hospital, with little or no contact with her loved ones. Making her feel like a worthless and unwanted burden. An obstruction to the new life he wanted, (and I really wonder if she had life insurance?), and then to really kick her while shes down and out, he makes her starve to death.
Michael Schiavo would do well to remember that chickens come home to roost. And just as he cruelly discarded Terri, it just might happen to him too. In the mind of most people in this country, he killed her.

I remember because my boyfriend was coming home for the holiday weekend and I was over at my sister's house watching her cats and saw that. edited to fix quote the [/ were missing and the quote was not in a quote box.

In the mind of most people in this country, he killed her. This woman may have been in the same state, but her brain is not in the same condition. The part of the brain that registers suffering has basically turned to liquid in Schiavo's brain. Not so for this woman you mention. BTW, it was her parents that left her in the hospital all of those years. Her ex tried to have her taken off support a long time ago.

We don't know that, there is an autopsy being performed today, to determine the extent, it would be interesting to find out. THE biggest difference between Terri and the lady from L.K. is she got the therapy she needed to recover, Terri did not, because of Michael Schiavo. Her parents had to sneak around to see her, because of Michael Shiavo, he didn't want Terri to have any visitors for some odd reason. And if memory serves, Terri was eating, never mind she was being fed, before she went down hill, and the feeding tube was inserted. Her parents had no say so, Michael had it all. All they did was fight to keep their child, their baby girl alive. The fact is there was help for her, Michael just didn't want to bother with the expense. Thats it in a nutshell. She could breathe on her own with no help, her heart functioned properly. Sustenance IS NOT life support, in the strictest sense of the word, everyone needs it, even you. If someone were to deny anyone food and water they would obviously die for reasons we all already know. Sorry, but Michael comes off as being selfish, ruthless, and cold. He has his "fiancee" the woman he has been living with for years. Why didn't he get a divorce from Terri, marry his fiancee, and let Terri be cared for by her family? Problem solved, he can be free to get on with his selfish life, and Terri can be cared for by people who truly love her, not by some pretending jerk, who only shows up to see her when there is a camera around to make him look good. But he didn't now did he? I wonder why? Perhaps it has something to do with MONEY? Does anyone know if she had a life insurance policy, with him as beneficiary?
