Anyone participate in this season with special intentionality? It is supposed to be a season wherein we express to God our sorrow for our sins and accept forgiveness. Traditional ways of doing this have been alms, fasting and prayer. Of course these should be aspects of our daily life but this season provides and opportunity for renewed committment.

Hi, Pietro.
During this season, my daughter gives up chocolate. I was worried she was doing this only because someone told her she should so I asked what that meant to her. Thankfully, she replied that everytime she thinks about giving up chocolate she remembers that Jesus gave up his life for her so she could be in heaven with Him.
In the past, our congregation has committed to tithing during the 6 weeks, which, alas, isn't as much of a habit as it should be for some in our Family. "Trying" it out has led to learning how easy it is and many continue after Easter to tithe. (this goes for those who aren't doing it already)
As for me, it is a rather contemplative time of year when I focus on my sins. This, ironically, serves to increase my joy at Easter.
How do you spend the days of Lent?
Blessings, LJ

How do you spend the days of Lent? Blessings, LJ This year I am simply not eating between meals. Not eating whenever I want provides some degree of hunger which reminds me that I ought to hunger for God as Jesus hungered in the wilderness 40 days. It also provides an ongoing mindfulness of how I should be relating to others. It's also not such a severe discipline that I would get big headed seing as how many people do not even have three meals a day.
