The lint filter on my dryer is not catching a lot of lint. I looked into the hole, and saw lots of lint looking stuff. Is this normal?? What could make the link filter not catch lint? I need some tech support!! Ronda Who is NOT mechanically inclined at all.

My old washer quit and had to be replaced. Not in our budget right after Christmas but it was a have to. We decited to replace the dryer also since it was older than my washer and was taking a little longer to dry a load of clothes. I had noticed more lint going down in the hole (when I would clean the filter) and had vacume it out. Thank God we did replace the dryer, even though it was still working! We disconnect and moved my 10 year old gas dryer and found a badly singed (burnt) spot on the kitchen vinyl floor. Praise God, it had not gone through the vinyl flooring, yet. We had a flex pipe vent replaced it with a solid vent pipe. GE recommends that you use solid metal vent pipe 4" in diameter for proper operation. You can use 4" flexible metal vent, but it will increase drying time somewhat. The vent pipe still looked good, was not cloged with lint but had developed a pin hole over time and could have caught our home on fire if we had not discovered it! Also we fould that dryers clog with lint (over time). You can vacume them out, as we had, but there are places you can not get to and they clog causing the dryer to (work harder) even get hotter (than normal) to dry your clothes. I will never use flex pipe venting again! Please be careful and do not use the dryer unless you are close by. Never leave home or go to bed with the dryer running. God Bless you!
