Today I have seen several commercials for churches in my area. Maybe other churches are running them too; I don't know.
The first I saw was a guy on a bridge with the typical 'extreme' music playing. He was decked out in a helmet and other gear, hooked up to a bungie cord. He drains a small carton of milk, then he jumps off the bridge. It shows the end of the bungie cord going over he edge, unhooked, and you hear a splat. Then it says Got Jesus??
I missed most of hte next one, just caught a glimpse of another person dying and heard a flat line-type sound. Then another message about making sure Jesus is in your life.
I just think of all the ways to get that message across, did they have to pick the one where you listen to two people die? I don't know, perhaps they will be effective to some people. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I think that probably is a little inapproriate, but I suppose I see the humor in it. I like the way my church does it. They do community events. An example: On Easter all of us donate baskets, bikes, prizes and candy. Then we have a huge Easter candy hunt for all of the kids in the community and a huge raffle. We supply breakfast also. It is a wonderful thing. We also have pkmtyolm that we invite all to attend before the candy hunt, we are not pushy though. Of course most people go out of obligation, but once in there our Pastor delivers a very powerful message that they can not ignore. I know, my hubby and I went to one two years ago, my hubby has since been saved and now we enjoy a wonderful life. It was the first time we had attended church together (Iwent alone usually), we had been married 11 years at the time. That Easter changed my life and now I go there happy to see the lives it changes every Sunday when someone new comes to our church and I enjoyed more than anything having the opportunity to be a part of the Easter celebration this year, instead of just coming off the street for a hunt for the kids.

It's funny. I hate when churches try to use the threat of hell to scare people into the church, but it also sounds really entertaining and memorable, so I actually like it even though it violates Lucas Rule #2.

Well, I knew I couldn't be unbiased about those commercials. The sound of that thud has been in my head all day. I tend to hold on to things a tad to long and get a touch emotional. Lol, I bet I hear about that if I ever argue with someone here again.

Where do you live that you have TV commertials like that?
I've never seen anything like that, but then, I also live in one of the most liberal states in America.
