Just curious, Nik, Does your relationship and faith in Christ depend upon the creation account in Genesis being literal? or Moses being the sole author of the Pentatauch? Pietro. The Bible tells me about Jesus Christ. There is no other inspired source of truth concerning sin or salvation. If Moses did not write the books that are ascribed to him, and if the Creation account as given to us in Genesis - including the making of a man out of dust with God (Jesus Christ) breathing into him the breath of life - then there is nothing in man that is from God. If God had not told that man, who was made and endued with a soul from God Himself - not to sin and had not warned him of the penalty of sin - then there no sin and nothing to be saved from. If God (Jesus Christ) did not find His sinning creation and clothe him in coats of skin and promise that a Saviour would one day come to deliver manking - there would be no hope for man to be saved - no reason to be saved at all. If man is not endued with a soul from God, then we are no different than the animals - in fact, the claim from science that we are animals would be absolutely correct. And if these things were not true - there would be no reason for me to trust and believe the Bible when it tells me about God's love and Christ's sacrifice. It was not necessary - hence it is only a nice story - but meaningless to me.

That sounds like a yes. Just a comment here: Pietro. The Bible tells me about Jesus Christ. There is no other inspired source of truth concerning sin or salvation. I agree. I think this is where we part company in that there can still be a great deal if not a totality "in man that is from God" even if Moses did not write the books that are ascribed to him and even if the Genesis account is more poetic than historical. I say this because the important message is that God exists, is creator, and is good regardless of how or when this came about or how that message comes to us. In short, my faith does not depend upon the messanger but upon the One who sent the message. That is why I have no problem with granting poetic license to the Old Testament. My faith in Christ depends upon Christ not Moses or early Jews.
