Of course there is no such reference.
I do know this, and so do you.
Priests answer to bishops, bishops answer to Cardinals and Cardinals answer to the Pope.
If something is going on in the Philippines - and not an isolated event, but it is all over - and it is common for the priests to bless this act of flagellation, then it is being permitted. The Pope was in the Philippines recently - but he mentioned nothing of the practice. You would think that he would tell them to stop such nonsense.
Otherwise, there would be discipline committees set up to investigate the priests and incorrect teachings.
So come on ladies. Gee whiz.

Last Week, my grandmother was in the hospital from Wed to Sunday.....thankfully, her heart cath was okay..... On Sunday, less than 4 hours after she got back to the nursing home and saw her boyfriend, Poppa Ed, he pkmtyolped away. We knew we were going to lose her. I think, and so do others, that he held on long enough for her to get back to see him one last time......I miss him so much. Grandma frequently told me I was the granddaughter that Poppa Ed never had. Ronda

Nic, My point is that you and others tend to condemn the church for actions of human beings, not the teachings of the RCC in the catechism. Most who do criticize the RCC teachings have never even nor intend to read the official teachings of the church. (not you of course, as you are an ex-catholic person and presumably have read the catechism.) Blessings, Ann

I had the Cathechism cpkmtyolles like all good young Catholics - and a parochial education to boot. So I'm not "entirely" ignorant on the subject - although I have been out of touch with it in the main for twenty-five years.

Differing opinions and interpretations does not make one party or another ignorant. So please do not say that in any way about yourself. You are obviously a very well versed person who loves our Lord. Remember that the love we have for Jesus is something we have in common that will never change. As for the catechism, it still does not teach the practices that the Phillipinos do. That does not make the church wrong, it makes the people doing it wrong. That is a big difference. Blessings, Ann

AR, OHHHH I am so so sorry for your loss! You must have been a blessing to him. Blessings, Ann He had been a very independent man until he had a stroke back in September...... Anytime I tried to adjust him in his bed to make him more comfortable, his reply to me asking him is that was better was always, "Much better." I did a little birthday party for him at the nursing home. We got some nice pics with him, grandma, me, and my best friend. He was so happy that day. He was an accordian player too. I wish someone had thought to tape record or videotape him playing the accordian....that would have been a nice way to remember him too. ronda

AR, He is in the heart of each person that knew him and loved him. That is the best remembrance of him. Blessings, Ann I have so many fond memories of him. He was a wonderful man. Had Grandma not been in the nursing home when he first met her as he came and played for the residents, I amcertain they would have ended up being married. He loved her very much. He took on her weekend trips. When that became too difficult because of her health, he would bring her to his house for the weekend. When she began falling......due to meds from a quack shrink we were to later discover......and she could not go to his house, he would spend most of the day with her at the nursing home. He called me an angel because I would come see her so much. One time, he handed me some money and asked me to go pick her up some new gowns. Once we took Grandma shopping, and Poppa Ed was going through underwear racks along with me looking for the right size for my grandma.....how many men would do that.... Ah, these happy memories are making me smile instead of cry. Ronda

In case you missed it last night:
The Easter Vigil begins in silence and in darkness. A fire is struck and blessed. The Easter candle is lit from the fire and the fire is spread throughout the assembly, as the candle is processed to the front amid the the acclamation that grows louder: Light of Christ! Thanks be to God! The following Eucharistic Prayer is proclaimed before the Easter light.
Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing, choirs of angels! Exult, all creation around God's throne! Jesus Christ, our King is risen! Sound the trumpet of salvation!
Rejoice, O earth, in shining splendor, radiant in the brightness of your King! Christ has conquered! Glory fills you! Darkness vanishes forever!
Rejoice, O Mother Church! Exult in glory! The risen Savior shines upon you! Let this place resound with joy, echoing the mighty song of all God's people!
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is truly right that with full hearts and minds and voices we should praise the unseen God, the all-powerful Father, and his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. For Christ has ransomed us with his blood, and paid for us the price of Adam's sin to our eternal Father!
This is our pkmtyolpover feast, when Christ, the true Lamb, is slain, whose blood consecrates the homes of all believers.
This is the night when first you saved our fathers: you free the people of Israel from their slavery and led them dry-shod through the sea.
This is the night when Christians everywhere, washed clean of sin and freed from all defilement, are restored to grace and grow together in holiness.
This is the night when Jesus Christ broke the chains of death and rose triumphant from the grave.
What good would life have been to us, had Christ not come as our Redeemer?
Father, how wonderful your care for us! How boundless your merciful love! To ransom a slave you gave away your Son.
O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam, which gained for us so great a Redeemer!
Most blessed of all nights, chosen by God to see Christ rising from the dead!
Of this night scripture says: "The night will be as clear as day; it will become my light, my joy."
The power of this holy night dispels all evil, washes guilt away, restores lost innocence, brings mourners joy; it casts out hatred, brings us peace, and humbles earthly pride.
Night truly blessed when heaven is wedded to earth and we are reconciled with God!
Therefore, heavenly Father, in the joy of this night, receive our evening sacrifice of praise, your Church's solemn offering.
Accept this Easter candle, a flame divided but undimmed, a pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God.
Let it mingle with the lights of heaven and continue bravely burning to dispel the darkness of this night!
May the morning Star which never sets find this flame still burning: Christ, that Morning Star, who came back from the dead, and shed his peaceful light on us all, your Son who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
